BigCityBeats WORLD CLUB DOME Drive-In Edition

2,000 WorldClubbers in two completely sold out shows at
1. Clubmusic staging in the Düsseldorf drive-in cinema

“It is so awesome. I absolutely lack the words! You should see it from up here!” BigCityBeats resident DJ Le Shuuk was visibly moved after finishing his 90-minute performance. The first Club festival concept during the corona crisis was a resounding success. Taking place in Düsseldorf’s drive-in cinema, an area more than two football fields in length, took place April 30th 2020. 2 shows, 1000 WorldClubbers in 500 cars for each performance turned the ‘drive in’ into the country’s biggest dance floor. Additionally, hundreds of thousands of WORLD CLUB DOME fans tuned in to Arte Concert, and watched on dozens of social media channels around the world. More than a dozen pillars of flame, CO2 cannons, full-color lasers and a state-of-the-art light show combined to light up the Dusseldorf night sky. Le Shuuk, DJing in front of the world’s largest hydraulic screen, played an incredible set of old school classics, EDM anthems and hard style beats. And that was the 1st BigCityBeats WORLD CLUB DOME Drive-In Edition. 1 evening – 2 shows. Unforgettable.

2,000 WorldClubbers on site and hundreds of thousands live online

A line of cars as far as the eye could see all waiting to enter the Düsseldorf drive-in cinema. And finally, at 7:45pm, the WorldClubbers made their way onto the huge site. The 500 cars lined up, “Two people per car, and please leave the windows up”, all adhered to the health and safety requirements. Creating the greatest, safest, and most infection free club in the world. It certainly didn’t dampen the mood, on the contrary WorldClubbers enjoyed the most extraordinary party of their life: the first BigCityBeats WORLD CLUB DOME without speakers strapped to the stage. Because for the first time, the car became the club.

The huge opening show was an absolute goosebumps moment: A two-minute video on the enormous screen celebrating everything we treasure, our friendships and our unlimited joy. As well as the importance of why we must work together to defeat the Corona virus.

Violinist Marisha accompanied the emotional video message providing mellow, melancholic melodies as a gentle reminder that we should never take life and freedom for granted.

And of course, the message, that if we continue to follow the guidelines, life will soon return to normal, where we can celebrate and party harder than before. It would seem that the message was received loud and clear by everyone.

The heartfelt opening ceremony was concluded by a breathtaking fireworks display, and from beyond the embers, Le Shuuk appeared launching into his DJ set. Reverberating around every car, Le Shuuk once again proved why he is considered one of the most musically talented DJ’s in the industry.

He played a mix of remixed old school classics, smash hit EDM, and a fantastic selection of hardcore tracks. Applause during the concert was offered in the form of an ocean of headlights, hazard lights and horns. Adding to the incredible atmosphere and experience was the appearance of DJ’s from around the world, each one celebrated with ecstatic applause by the WORLD CLUB DOME crowd.

As an encore to his incredible set, Le Shuuk presented news of the first major event due to take place following the Corona crisis: the BigCityBeats WORLD CLUB DOME Winter Edition, taking place January 8, 9 and 10, 2021, just 100 meters adjacent to the drive-in cinema: in the Düsseldorf MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA. It’s expected that BigCityBeats will become the first organizer of a huge festival event post-shutdown. It seems fitting that prior to the standstill, in early 2020, the last huge WCD festival took place in the very same arena. No-one could have expected how our world would look four months later.

So looking positively toward the future, if we stick to the social distancing rules and avoid contact, we will once again celebrate together in the world’s largest stadiums. Until that beautiful moment, to sweeten the waiting time and due to incredibly high demand, BigCityBeats can announce further World Club Dome Drive In editions for the Dusseldorf Drive-In Cinema.

“When I had the idea to convert a cinema into a club a few weeks ago, I never thought I would have started an avalanche with it. I am very pleased that this idea has now become independent worldwide and that we have been able to make a contribution to bringing some normalcy into a difficult time,” says Bernd Breiter (CEO BigCityBeats GmbH).
