At Monday night the 11th of March 2019 Dutch composers,lyrics-writers and music-publishers unite for the Buma Awards award show. During the yearly gala-night, which will return at Studio 21 at the Mediapark inHilversum, the most successful people involved in last years hits will behonored. In addition to that, amongst others, the Buma Golden Harp, the Lennaert Nijgh award and the Lifetime Achievement Award will be distributed.
Frank Helmink, CEO Buma Cultuur: ‘Dutch music is doing really well, actually: we’re doing increasingly well in the Netherlands and abroad. Moreover, not just regarding electronic music anymore. The Buma Awards aren’t only about celebrating these successes, we also feel that the ones responsible for this, meaning amongst others our lyrics-writers, our members, composers and their publishers, should be placed in the spotlights.’
The Buma Awards are yearly distributed in March. At a gala-night filledwith celebrations, composers, writers and their publishers are being honoredwith a Buma Award in several categories. The Buma Awards National and International will go to the composers and writers of the most played and best-sold singles in 2018. In addition to that, prizes are being distributed in the categories Multimedia, Film and Classical Music.
Besides the popularity-prizes, also three jury-prizes are being distributed yearly. In that sense that Lenneart Nijgh Award goes to the best lyrics-writer, the Golden Harp to the person who has meant a great deal for Dutch music and the Lifetime Achievement Award to a composer who has performed exceptionally for a long period. Last year the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Huub van der Lubbe, Edwin Evers and Jochem Fluitsma and Eric van Tijn.
