MC Barricade

Last weekend, we visited Intents Festival 2015. Always a great festival to visit, with an amazing atmosphere! Intents Festival is a festival where not only the bigger, established names get a chance to showcase their talents, but also upcoming artists! You can find these artists at the Boombox Stage at this festival, with artists such as The Shade, Noisecult, Hygenersis & MC RG. This is also where we found MC Barricade who’s been doing pretty well! He’s had bookings at great events such as Bass Protocol and we’ve noticed he’s been getting more and more support! So of course, we decided to have a chat! Here’s the interview:

First, we’d like to give our readers a chance to get to know you. Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

‘’Haha of course! Well, my name is Arie. I’m 20 years old and I’m an upcoming Hardstyle MC. During the week I have a regular job just like I guess most of you guys do. I’ve been MC’ing for about half a year now and I have to say it has really become my life. Oh, and I’m a ginger, so bring on the jokes, haha! ‘’

How did you decide to become a MC and how did the people around you respond to that?

‘’That’s quite a funny story actually. A friend of mine was DJ’ing and pulled me on stage at a party in Club Supreme as kind of a joke. However, they really liked what I did on stage there and they told me I had to do something with that. And so I did. Some people didn’t expect me to start MC’ing, though. In my everyday life, I can sometimes be more on the background, I don’t really take up the spotlight. So they were really surprised when I told them! But they’ve seen me really light up and come out of my shell when I’m on stage. And even though some were surprised, my friends and family have shown me nothing but massive love and support, which I really appreciate! ‘’

And how/why did you decide to become a Hardstyle MC?

‘’I’ve been in this scene for about 4 years now and I have to say it has really become my world. I live for this music and listen to it 24/7. That’s why I really wanted to contribute something to the scene and I think I can! When I look at artists such as MC Villain or MC Da Syndrome, I think to myself: I want to mean something for this amazing scene like they did! I mean, music drives people, it keeps people going, I’d love to contribute to that.’’

Beautifully said. We’re curious, how have you gotten from that point to where you are today? How did that development go?

‘’After being told that I really had I started to do some research, practiced my ass of and started contacting different organizations with some of my material. Which resulted in bookings at places such as Fairytale Festival and  Intents Festival!’’

It’s amazing how fast things have gone for you then! We’ve noticed the support you’ve been getting by artists such as Faye, but also a growing fan-base and right now we’re at Intents Festival, which you’ve said is really special for you. Could you tell us something about what that’s like for you?

‘’Yes! Hosting at Intents Festival is really a dream come true for me. Intents is like a second home to me, I’ve been coming here for as long as I remember, since the very first edition! I’ve really seen this festival grow into what it is right now and I truly hope and believe that they will be able to compete with the best and biggest names out there! As for Faye, I met her at Release and we instantly became good friends! She started DJ’ing, I’ve started MC’ing and we try to help and support each other when we can! This really means a lot to me.’’

Like you said, hosting at Intents Festival is a huge step for you. Are there other big milestones you dream of achieving in your career?

‘’DEFQON! Haha, that really is a dream for me. It doesn’t matter how big or small the stage, hosting at Defqon. 1 would be a dream come true! I also really love to travel (even though I have a small fear of flying) and I’d love to be able to travel more and discover different cultures! I can actually tell you that this year I’ll be flying to England. But I can’t tell you more about that right now….’’

Awesome! We’re curious what that might bring! Are there any other things coming up you can tell us about?

‘’Tomorrow my new track with Hygenersis will be premiered here at Intents! Other than that, there’s an anthem in the making for which I’m collaborating with amazing DJ’s. I can’t say more about that either, sorry! Haha. And I’m working really hard right now with the hopes of performing at some big indoor events!’’

Sounds like you have some great stuff coming up! We’ll keep an eye on you and hope to catch up with you soon. Before we end the interview, is there anything you’d like to say to our readers and your fans?

‘’Yes, I’d like to thank all of you guys for the great support! I love you and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you! For all upcoming MC’s, make sure you profile yourself the right way, have fun with what you’re doing and always keep that true love and dedication! That’s what makes you great!’’

Words to live by! Haha. We’d like to thank you for this interview and we’ll see you later at the Boombox stage!
